Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. Is there anything in particular that motivates you as you go through college and prepare yourself for a career?

A: My name is Fatoumata, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration at USC Marshall School of Business with a minor in Fashion. The belief drives me that every moment spent learning is an investment in my future and that quite literally, time is money. I understand that the effort I put into my studies today will shape the opportunities I have tomorrow. My goal is to absorb as much knowledge and experience as possible during my time in college, preparing myself to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Q: How has Richmond Promise played a role in your education?

A: Richmond Promise has been a beacon of support, alleviating the financial stress that often accompanies higher education. Their scholarship has allowed me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies and personal growth, empowering me to seize every opportunity without the burden of financial worries.

Q: Why did you choose to be a Richmond Promise Summer Associate and what are you hoping to take from the experience?

A: I chose to be a Richmond Promise Summer Associate as a way to give back to the community that has been instrumental in my journey. This role allows me to express my gratitude by contributing to the growth and success of others. I hope to gain deeper insights into community building and leadership, while also inspiring others to pursue their dreams.

Q: What do you want to contribute to Richmond and/or the world?

A: I aspire to tell the world’s stories through the art of fashion. I believe that clothing is a powerful medium of expression, revealing much about a person’s identity and aspirations. Through my designs, I aim to create pieces that resonate with people’s journeys and dreams, fostering a deeper connection and understanding among individuals.

Q: How has your current college experience gone and what has been the best part?

A: My college experience has been uniquely enriching. Although I started at USC in the spring semester rather than the fall, this unexpected beginning gave me valuable time to prepare mentally for the transition. It also allowed me to cherish precious moments with my family and grow independently. The best part of my college experience has been the diverse stories I encounter daily from my peers. Each interaction broadens my perspective and enriches my understanding of the world.

Q: What are you looking forward to doing after finishing school?

A: I am eagerly looking forward to launching my own fashion brand and realizing my dream of becoming a renowned fashion designer. I am excited to create designs that inspire and tell compelling stories, making a positive impact on the world through fashion.
