During the 2024-25 school year, the Richmond Promise College Access Team will be joined in its work by Near-Peer Ambassadors. These members of our team are current RP Scholars who assist in the execution of in-classroom programming in local high schools. We are pleased to introduce you to one of our 2024-25 Ambassadors, Yureidy.

Q: First, some basic info. Tell us your name, current school, the high school you graduated from and your major (or intended field of study):

A: Hi! My name is Alondra Yureidy, I am a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley. I graduated from Leadership Public Schools Richmond & I am a Business major. 🙂

Q: What are you most looking forward to about being an RP Near-Peer Ambassador and what are you hoping to get from the experience?

A: As a RP Near-Peer Ambassador, I am looking forward to guiding students from my community to taking the first steps to successfully become a college student. I am hoping to be rewarded just by knowing that more people from my hometown are getting the opportunity to attend college.

Q: If you were going to give advice to a high school senior about going through the college application process, what would it be?

A: Advice I’d give a high school senior going through the college application process, would be: Don’t leave it for last minute, this is your future in your hands. Take it one step at a time and make of it what you desire. You got this!

Q: What’s the best part about being in college/what should a high school senior look forward to?

A: The best part of college is the freedom to choose your day to day routines, meeting new people from different backgrounds and cultures and having a huge variety of topics to learn from every semester. Look forward to gaining knowledge, knowledge is power and no one can ever take that away from you.

Q: What are you most looking forward to after college?

A: I am most looking forward to growing in my career field and living my desired lifestyle.
