Richmond Promise To Host 10th Annual Scholar Celebration on May 28 at Richmond Art Center
RICHMOND, CALIF. — Richmond Promise will celebrate a decade of service to Richmond students when it welcomes the newest cohort of RP Scholars at the 10th annual Richmond Promise Scholar Celebration on May 28 at the Richmond Art Center.
The free event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. and is open to the public. The gathering will provide new RP Scholars, family, friends and community with an opportunity to come together and celebrate students as they prepare to graduate from high school and matriculate to postsecondary education. The evening will include light refreshments, activities, alumni speakers and a recognition of RP’s newest class.
“The Scholar Celebration is our community’s chance to show our youth that Richmond supports their higher education journeys,” said RP Executive Director Christopher Whitmore. “As our incoming Scholars prepare for higher education, we want them to feel joyous, excited and motivated, and it takes our entire community to help them establish that strong start.”
Since its launch in 2016, Richmond Promise has supported over 3,700 Richmond young people as they make their way to and through higher education. Richmond Promise currently serves more than 1,300 scholars who are pursuing associate and bachelor degrees, and career technical education certifications, at over 200 colleges and universities across the United States. The majority of Richmond Promise scholars identify as people of color, first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds.
The Scholar Celebration serves as the Richmond Promise’s largest event and a tradition that welcomes the newest cohort of Richmond youth to a community of local degree and certificate seekers who are supported through a multi-year scholarship and wraparound services. Organizations interested in sponsoring the event can contact Director of Development Hannah Dworkin at hdworkin@richmondpromise.org.
